G*Connect Webinar: Getting started with Aural ID

28.4.2022

Our new Aural ID plug-in gives audio professionals the ability to confidently use and trust headphones for monitoring purposes. In this exclusive webinar, you'll learn about the technology behind Aural ID and how you can get the best possible results from its setup and usage.

Our R&D Director, Aki Mäkivirta, will explain to you how listeners usually locate audio sources and why it's so challenging to recreate this phenomenon with headphones. Using Aural ID starts with the process of measuring your unique bodily form; the shape of your ears, upper torso and head. Those shapes determine how you, as an individual, locate and evaluate sound. Aki will talk about our unique approach to generating your HRTF, which is a data profile that stores your unique features as a listener, he'll show a video from our Aural ID Creator app, and then he'll explain the process of fine-tuning Aural ID's virtual sound sources and other advanced options for user adaption in the plug-in.

Our Senior Technologist, Thomas Lund, will follow this by giving you a closer look at the differences between in-room listening and headphone listening, how we perceive room spaces in the room and through recordings, and how panning works with loudspeaker systems compared to headphones. Finally, the focus will shift to levels, imaging, sound color and listener envelopment. Thomas will show you how an ultra-nearfield monitoring system can be used to precisely adjust the Aural ID plug-in's virtual sound sources and sound colour in order to get the best possible results for your personal calibration. You will also learn more about yourself as a listener.

The webinar will end with a Q&A session where Aki and Thomas will happily answer your questions.
